Summary: Variation in lipid and protein content of sunflower seed and oilcake meals in South Africa. The variation in chemical composition of sunflower seed supplied to different oil mills from various sources and the variation in chemical composition of the resulting oilcake meals was investigated. The analysis of the seeds indicated a significant variation in chemical composition of seed supplied to the processing plants. Results from this study indicated that processors implementing efficient processing procedures were capable of producing products with a desired chemical composition.
