Summary: The heave motion response of a 100T level heavy towing system was obtained based on test data in a certain sea area in South China Sea. A 100T level passive heave compensator (PHC) was designed with a hydraulic cylinder as the main body, and the mathematical model was established. Then the passive heave compensator's parameter optimization and compensation performance were achieved by AMESim and Matlab/Simulink co-simulation platform. The simulation results show that the PHC performs well in heave displacement compensation and tension suppression in level 3 to level 6 sea condition. With the increase of sea condition level, the compensation effect will gradually weaken. Finally, this paper discussed the influence on PHC performance of accumulator volume, the average load pressure of accumulator and mother ship heave motion frequency.
